First Meeting of the Space Agencies of the IILA member countries, with the collaboration of the MAECI, the Italian Space Agency (ASI) and the ICE – Italian Trade & Investment Agency. June 20-24, 2022
The first meeting of the Space Agencies of the IILA member countries will start on 20 June 2022 : the leaders of 18 Space Agencies of the IILA member countries, the representatives of ESA ( European Space Agency) and the main industries and trade associations of the Italian aerospace sector will gather in the International Conference Room of the Farnesina to explore new possibilities for collaboration in space.
The event – organized by IILA – Italian-Latin American International Organization and by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI), in collaboration with the Italian Space Agency (ASI) and ICE – Italian Trade & Investment Agency (ICE) – is carried out as part of the “IILA for space: diplomacy and space economy for sustainable development” project, financed by the MAECI.
The Central Director for the Country System, Min. Plen. Cecilia Piccioni will read a written message from the Minister of Foreign Affairs , Luigi Di Maio , focused on Italian space diplomacy initiatives in Latin America. In her speech, the Director will also highlight the role played by the Italian diplomatic network in the promotion of Italian companies in the sector.
This will be followed by a speech by the General Secretary of IILA, Antonella Cavallari and by the Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Manlio Di Stefano . Present were the Latin American Ambassadors to Italy, high representatives of the Italian Parliament and numerous other authorities.
Space is traditionally a sector of international cooperation, where individual states are led to collaborate to achieve common objectives. The partnership between Latin America and Italy in this sector, both in the field of university and scientific cooperation, and in the technological and entrepreneurial field, therefore has a very high potential, which the event intends to promote and make known.
The detailed program will continue on June 21st at the ASI headquarters with a second day entirely dedicated to the dissemination of space-related technologies for sustainable development and growth .
From 22 to 24 June the delegations will visit leading Italian industries in the sector , with the aim of stimulating the creation of new networking between small and medium-sized industries and startups from Latin American countries. The welcome guests will receive: AVIO , a leading company in the space propulsion sector, with headquarters in Colleferro (RM); the ASI base in Matera, also home to e-GEOS (ASI/Telespazio) , one of the main international players in the Earth observation and geospatial information sector; Sitael , a world leading group in the transport and aerospace sector based in Bari; D-Orbit , a company operating in the space logistics and transport services sector located in Milan; Leonardo Spa (Milan branch), leader in aerospace, defense and security; OHB-Italia , one of the main space companies in Europe, leader in the space missions and Earth observation sector.
